Hong Kong Handbell Academy (HKHA) is the first Hong Kong based handbell resource and training center and established in 2004 by the experienced handbell expert Ms. Emily Li. HKHA is aimed to promote handbell music and raise its recognition among local community as a form a performing art with educational value, through professional training and performing. Besides, HKHA is the only organization owns complete 7 octave set handbell & 6 octave set handchime instruments in Hong Kong.
HKHA offers handbell courses at different levels, which allows students of all ages and stages to accept professional and effective training no matter they are children, adolescents, adult students, and senior citizens, people with special needs, or music teachers and conductors. Since established, over thousands of students have learnt handbell ringing through our training programs. Many of them performed at various occasions and won fruitful achievements. A group of experienced and professional handbell instructors with formal music education backgrounds compose our top-class teaching faculty, guiding every student, young or old, to enjoy the fun of handbell ringing.
To further promote handbell music and to meet different learning needs, the Hong Kong Handbell Academy provides various training projects, including handbell training and consulting services for primary and secondary schools, special training courses for students with potentials and handbell conductors. With the vision of “promoting local development and popularity of handbell music”, the Academy organized the 1st Hong Kong Handbell Festival with the Handbell Association of Hong Kong. Through exchange and imitate study, the level of handbell ringing in Hong Kong has been raised to a new high.
Many of our students were invited to perform in various public occasions such as the TVB, RTHK, Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Music Office, Churches and shopping malls. In 2005, the Academy found the Hong Kong Youth Handbell Ensemble to provide training for young talents. Besides local performance, the ensemble also represented Hong Kong to participate in international events with the mission of broadcasting handbell music. The ensemble performed in Australia, Singapore, the United States, Canada, Korea, the United Kingdom, Japan and many other countries, winning high praise from the audience.
