Born into a musical family, Baba Damien is a highly accomplished Singaporean percussionist, conductor, and educator who has shaped the region’s music scene for over three decades. A former Principal Percussionist of the Singapore Youth Orchestra and Principal Timpanist of the Singapore Armed Forces Central Band, he has performed with elite national orchestras, major theatre musicals, and top Asian pop icons. He holds a double Master’s degree—in Music Performance from the London College of Music and Music Leadership from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music—and has been conferred a double Fellowship (FRSA, FLCM) alongside an honorary Doctor of Letters for his profound impact on music development.

Affectionately known as a pioneer of the regional handbell community, Damien is the founder of the award-winning Ministry of Bellz (MOB) and the Executive Director of the Handbell Ringers of Singapore Society (HRSG). He has represented Singapore globally as a massed ringing conductor at International Handbell Symposiums and directs numerous school ensembles, leading them to over 50 national distinction and gold awards. Beyond standard performance, he has dedicated his expertise to inclusivity in the arts, serving as the Music Director for the ExtraOrdinary Light Orchestra, an ensemble comprised entirely of musicians with special needs.

As a well-travelled global educator and adjudicator, Damien has taught and performed in over 25 countries, sharing his signature workshops and publishing Singaporean handbell music for international distribution. A fourth-generation Peranakan-Teochew and dedicated follower of Christ, his 21st-century educational philosophy centers on giving every child an equal opportunity to discover the joy of music. Guided by his personal motto—“To Educate, To Share, To Inspire, To Create, To Include”—he continues to champion social integration, innovation, and artistic excellence.
