This course is an introductory course for primary and secondary school music teachers and those interested in setting up a handbell group. It aims to provide participants with a comprehensive view on the art of handbell ringing so that they can organize their own handbell group and draft up proposals and budgets for fund applications. The course includes introduction to the instrument, fundamentals on setting up handbell groups, special features about handbell music, ringers positioning and maintenance of handbells. Upon completion of the course, participants can enroll for the "Handchimes & Belleplates Pedagogy" or "Handbells Pedagogy".
This course is designed for new directors and instructors of handchime choirs. It aims to help directors to train ringers of newly formed choirs in a more effective manner. Participants will be able to put theories regarding the teaching of handchime/belleplate playing introduced into practice. Hands-on exercise on rehearsing and conducting, as well as warm-up exercise for ringers will be included. The course also provides participants with training on how to prepare for handbell concerts as well as selecting the appropriate repertoire for their choirs.
(Belleplates are new members of the handbell family, it is rung in the same manner with handchimes and are relatively lighter, making them ideal for young ringers.)
This course is suitable for new directors/instructors of handbell groups or those with handchime/belleplate conducting experience. It aims to enable participants to be more effective in directing newly formed handbell choirs. Different handbell ringing techniques, rehearsal and conducting skills as well as warm-up exercises will be introduced. Participants will be able to make practical applications of these skills during the course. The course also covers performance issues and repertoire selection to suit the progress of individual choirs.
This course designs for conductor who has at least one year conducting (handchime/handbell) experience. It targets to enrich participant conducting technique. Focus on hand-on experience; participant will conduct a song in class so that teacher will direct the right way of conducting.
With advanced ringing techniques, tone control and interpretation in different repertoires to enhance the conducting ability and skills. The course also introduces the handbell ensemble with other instruments and the basic handbell music arrangement to enable your creativity in writing for your handbell team.
