The Clappers was established in 2012, with artistic director, Ms. Emily Li. The ensemble is formed by a group of experienced and enthusiastic young handbell performers. Feathered with both styles and skills, The Clappers brought the freshness to the traditional handbell ringing through new perspectives and novel ideas. By accompanying with other instruments and music, The Clappers offered its own interpretation on handbell ringing. In their performances, the unique art of handbell was revealed and presented layer by layer, also bring the audience a sense of refreshing all the time.
As invited, The Clappers travelled to Nagoya, Japan to participate the 36th Japan National Symposium. The ensemble was also the performing guest for the event of “Art Week 2013” in TaiKoo Hui, Guangzhou. The Clappers is an active ensemble in Hong Kong. Invited by the Child Development Fund and the Hong Kong Housing Authority, they performed for the Hong Kong Carol Singing Festival, and the “Happy X’mas”. The Clappers held their solo concert “¿Shall We?” and combined handbell ringing with drama, wining high praises from both the audience and music fans.
Aimed to promote the development of handbell music in Hong Kong, and to raise recognition of handbell among local citizens, The Clappers actively involved with programs devised by the RTHK and the TVB, such as interviews and television or radio program recording.
